Visser, Winnie

Winnie Visser received
her
Master of Divinity Degree from Tyndale University, College and Seminary
majoring in Counselling. Following this
she completed more courses with the University of Guelph,
School
of Open Learning which enabled her to
complete the requirements to become a Clinical Member of the Ontario
Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
She is also a member of the American Association of Christian
Counsellors. Winnie sees individuals, couples and families
with a variety of
emotional, relational and spiritual challenges. She loves
watching how God meets people in their difficulties and
frees them to be all that He has created them to be.
Prior to counselling,
Winnie
was a Registered Practical Nurse, working on a psychiatric
ward.
This is where she came to understand that
people were much more than their diagnoses and that it is only Jesus
who provides
ultimate healing. Her experience with
people who deal with a psychiatric diagnosis is a great asset to her
counselling practice. With this
experience Winnie is also hired by a region of Christian Reformed
Churches to
help congregations better minister to the needs of the mentally ill and
their
families. Winnie was the Coordinator
of a “Faith and Hope in Mental Illness” Conference
in April 2007, in which 300 people
of both the secular community and the Christian community came together
to share
a wonderful day of learning.
Winnie finds it to be a
tremendous honour to be asked to speak into the lives of the people God
calls
to her. “Encouraging people to walk
through the tough times in life and watching God grow individuals, heal
desperate
marriages and bring together hurt families is like watching a miracle
happen
before one’s eyes!”
Winnie is the oldest of
two
and raised by Christian parents who owned a poultry farm. The
Church and the Christian school
communities were very important to their family. Winnie has
served in various capacities in the churches she’s
attended and served on the Board of the local Christian high school and
the
building team of the community Christian elementary school.
Winnie
has been married for 26 years to her husband and together they have one
married
daughter and 3 adult sons. Winnie loves
spending time with her family, however, is also just learning the value
of
being a new “empty-nester.” Winnie
enjoys quiet time with the Lord, prayer, reading, camping, and spending
time by
the water.
